The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that an inaugural Twenty20 Pakistan Super League will be held in Qatar next year.
The PCB says that 40 foreign players from all Test-playing countries except India have expressed an interest in participating in the new competition, which will take place in February 2016 in Doha.
The five-team tournament will take place in Qatar because of a lack of venues in Dubai, which has been the home of Pakistani cricket since 2009.
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the PCB Najam Sethi told reporters: "The wait is now over and we are here to tell you of our intent to stage the PSL.
"The way we see it, PSL is not just about cricket. It is a unique blend of entertainment and cricket which will be the most exciting Pakistani product.
"We are starting with five teams in order to build the value of our franchises and we will expand the number of teams in the coming editions."
The event will replace the Faysal Bank T20 Cup, which held its last edition in the 2012-13 season.
