England's Joe Root moves up the Test batsmen rankings to ninth following his performances against India.

Joe Root has broken into the top 10 of Test cricket's best batsmen for the first time in his career.

The 23-year-old went into England's recent series against India 26th in the rankings, but two centuries and three half-centuries in just seven innings have moved the number five batsman up to ninth place.

Meanwhile, Root's teammate Alastair Cook has moved up to 21st position, with Gary Ballance now three places behind his captain.

There was also positive news where bowler Stuart Broad was concerned, with the 28-year-old having risen from ninth to eighth in the bowler's standings.

As far as England as a team are concerned, the 3-1 series victory over the Indians has seen them move up to third in the Test rankings.
