Limited-overs captain Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a new contract with Essex.
The Netherlands international, who arrived in Chelmsford 12 years ago, has committed himself to the club until the summer of 2017.
"I am delighted to be staying at this wonderful club," the 35-year-old told the club's official website.
"Essex gave me my chance in County Cricket, and I want more than anything to keep repaying them for their faith with a trophy and promotion. We've underachieved as a group this year and we will be working even harder to improve next year."
News of Ten Doeschate's extension has come on the same day that spin-bowler Aron Nijjar signed his first professional deal with the club.
