Somerset have signed South African all-rounder Vernon Philander as an overseas player for the beginning stages of next season.
Philander will appear for Somerset in April and May of next year as a replacement for Charl Willoughby, who has joined Essex.
The 26-year-old, who has previously represented Middlesex, made his South Africa debut last month against Australia.
Somerset's director of cricket Brian Rose told the club website how Philander's performances against Australia had impressed him.
"Watching him bowl against Australia I was immediately impressed by his ability and character in an especially demanding debut on his home ground," Rose explained.
Despite signing for Somerset, his appearances for the Taunton-based side could be limitied if he becomes involved with the Indian Premier League.
