Marcus Trescothick has been given the all-clear to return to cricket for Somerset 2nd XI on Tuesday after three months out due to injury.
The former England batsman suffered an ankle injury in April and has not appeared for his county side since, but the team's medics are ready to let him return to action against Essex 2nd XI on Tuesday if the match goes ahead.
Trescothick told Somerset's official website: "I'm desperate to get back into it and just can't wait.
"We have just spoken to Chris Silverwood who is the second XI coach at Essex who said it is pouring down and the pitch is wet, so we will have to see how things go."
Trescothick played 72 Tests for England during his international career.
