Shane Warne has been reported for breaching the "spirit of the game" in a Big Bash League match, which could lead to another suspension.

The Melbourne Stars spinner did not name himself as captain for their semi-final game in order to avoid a suspension for allowing a slow over rate.

The 43-year-old was warned about the over rate earlier in the competition and would have received a suspension if his side were too slow again.

A statement from Cricket Australia reads: "Shane Warne has been reported for breaching Cricket Australia's code of behaviour.

"Under the heading 'Over Rates', the memo [sent to teams last month] stated that 'If a team's official captain is selected but not named as captain, this will be considered against the spirit of cricket and may attract a code of behaviour charge'.

"Warne had previously been issued with one strike for a slow over rate violation, with a second strike this season resulting in an automatic one-match suspension."

Warne has already missed one match after receiving a ban for an on-field altercation with Marlon Samuels.
