Angelo Mathews has recorded an unbeaten innings of 157 as Sri Lanka set Pakistan a target of 302 to win the first Test match in Abu Dhabi.
After resuming the final day on 420-5, Mathews and Prasanna Jayawardene pressed on to put the match out of reach of their hosts, while hoping to retain a small hope that they could pull off a miraculous victory.
The two Sri Lankan batsmen had little trouble in adding another 60 to their total, with Mathews remaining at the crease after facing 343 balls while Jayawardene ended the innings on 63.
Pakistan survived the first five overs of their second innings before lunch, ending the morning on 20-0 to leave them requiring another 282 runs from the final two sessions of the day.
