South Africa lose the first ODI against Pakistan in Cape Town by 23 runs.

Pakistan have beaten South Africa in their first one-day international of the series by 23 runs.

The Asian giants reached 218 from their 50 overs, with Anwar Ali top-scoring with 43 not out from 55 balls.

Umar Akmal went for a duck, caught by Quinton de Kock off the bowling of Vernon Philander and Mohammad Hafeez was out for five runs, losing his wicket after being caught by Hashim Amla.

Bilawal Bhatti managed to make 39 from just 25 deliveries, and Ahmed Shehzad showed decent touch to reach 35, before being being caught by De Kock off a delivery from Jacques Kallis.

South Africa reached 12 without loss, but then Amla shuffled across and saw the ball knock his bails down. Graeme Smith went shortly after, stumped by Akmal.

After getting past 60 runs without further loss, South Africa lost their third wicket of their innings when De Kock had a lapse in concentration and was bowled by a full length delivery from Bhatti.

The big wicket of AB de Villiers was next for Pakistan. The batsman tried to drive off the back foot, but Shahid Afridi's delivery flew past him.

The wicket of Kallis (50) was next to crumble as Pakistan began to take control. David Miller (4), Vernon Philander (14), JP Duminy (49), and Dale Steyn (15) went to leave South Africa 192-9.

It was all over soon after, as Bhatti bowled Morne Morkel as the hosts finished with figures of 195 all out.
