It was a strong innings from the pair, who managed to keep the Hurricanes unbeaten until Paine was dismissed on 47 from 28 balls by James Hopes.
Jonathan Wells (12) and Evan Gulbis (22) were among those that contributed, but it was Dunk who shone for the Hurricanes by scoring 87 runs from 53 balls as the side finished their innings on 209-7.
Brisbane Heat had the task of chasing 210, but they were dealt a blow when Craig Kieswetter was taken out for 22 by Dimitri Mascarenhas.
Opening batsman Luke Pomersbach (60) held firm while Joe Burns and Ben McDermott were both dismissed for a duck, and Chris Lynn only mustered one run from four.
