The Lahore Lions win their first game of the Champions League T20 tournament as they beat the Sunfoil Dolphins by 16 runs in their clash in Bangalore.

The Lahore Lions secured their first victory of the Champions League T20 competition by defeating the Sunfoil Dolphins by 16 runs this afternoon.

The Lions won the toss and elected to bat first, but that decision looked to be a poor one when opener Ahmed Shehzad fell to Robbie Frylinck for just six runs.

Fylinck struck again in his next over to remove to Shehzad's opening partner Nasir Jamshed for 10, while Agha Salman and Mohammed Hafeez also fell cheaply to leave the Lions reeling at 34-4.

However, Saad Nasim and Kamran Akmal eased those concerns as they began to find the boundary with regularity to kickstart Lahore's innings.

Nasim showed excellent striking of the ball and helped his side ease past the 100-mark before he went for 43 off 26 balls when he fell lbw to Frylinck.

Akmal continued his excellent innings as he reached his half-century off 31 balls and he continued the assault until the end of the 20 overs, finishing unbeaten on 73, while Asif Raza added 19 off 12 deliveries as the Lions posted 164.

The Dolphins' run chase got off to a similarly poor start when Cameron Delport, Cody Chetty and Keshav Mahraj all fell cheaply, but Morne van Wyk and Jonathan Vandiar put them back on course.

Van Wyk hit 36 off 29 deliveries, including six fours, but when his dismissal started a collapse as Vandiar fell for 29 shortly after and Khaya Sondo and Vaughn van Jaarsveld soon followed, leaving the Dolphins 79-7.

Frylinck made a desperate attempt to keep his side in the game with a brilliant innings of 63 off just 27 balls, which included six sixes, but it wasn't enough for his side as they fell 17 runs short of their target.
