An unbeaten knock of 62 runs from Rohit Sharma helped the Mumbai Indians record a 41-run victory over the Pune Warriors at the Wankhede Stadium this afternoon.
Opener Sachin Tendulkar got the Indians off to a positive start with a 29-ball 44, which was built upon by Dinesh Karthik, who made a contribution of a further 41 runs.
When he was dismissed, that brought Sharma to the crease and the Indian international helped the home side to 183-3 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Pune's three opening batsmen were able to make only 11 runs between them.
It was 21-year-old Australian Mitchell Marsh who was their top scorer with 38 runs, but when he was dismissed by his fellow countryman Mitchell Johnson, Pune's chances of claiming anything from the encounter ended.
They eventually completed their 20 overs on 142 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
