Perth Scorchers edge out Hobart Hurricans by 18 runs in their low-scoring Big Bash match.

Perth Scorchers recorded an 18-run victory over Hobart Hurricanes to move to the top of the Big Bash table.

Scorchers captain Adam Voges won the toss and elected to bat first, and side got off to a brisk start as opener Marcus Harris blasted 20 runs off 12 balls inside the first four overs.

However, Harris was dismissed for 20 while opening partner Michael Klinger fell to the bowling of Tim Bresnan for six as the visitors saw their fast start stall.

Michael Carberry fell cheaply to leave Perth 37-3, but Voges showed some form at the crease with 26 to get the innings back on track.

Sam Whiteman and Ashton Turner powered their side past the 100-run mark following the skipper's departure, with Turner impressing with two sixes in his knock of 37.

Bresnan starred at the end of the innings for the home side as he picked up two wickets and a run out to restrict the Scorchers to a score of 141-7.

The Hurricanes got off to a poor start in their chase as Jason Behrendorff dismissed Ben Dunk for a single, while his opening partner Tim Paine departed for 19 to the same bowler.

Michael Hill showed composure out in the middle to guide his side past the 50-run mark, but he lacked support as Shoaib Malik and George Bailey both fell cheaply.

Hill reached his half-century, but the run-rate was increasing with every passing delivery and he eventually went for 64 to the bowling of Andrew Tye.

Jonathan Wells and the tail were left with the unlikely task of needing 29 off the final two overs, but they could only muster 10 runs as the visitors closed out what was eventually a comfortable victory.
