Kyle Coetzer becomes the first Scotland batsman to score a century at the Cricket World Cup as the Scots set Bangladesh 319 to win their Pool A clash in Nelson.

Scotland have set Bangladesh a total of 319 to reach following an impressive century from Kyle Coetzer in their Cricket World Cup Pool A clash in Nelson.

Coetzer's knock of 156 off 134 balls means that he is the first Scottish player to score a century in a World Cup match.

Scotland suffered an early blow when Calum MacLeod (11) was dismissed in the third over. Despite looking in good touch, the opener edged Mashrafe Mortaza to cover, where Mohammad Mahmudullah made the catch.

Hamish Gardiner scored 19 before he lofted a Taskin Ahmed delivery to Soumya Sarkar at cover, leaving the Scots on 38-2.

However, Bangladesh failed to make the most of the pressure as Scotland pair Coetzer and Matthew Machan began to add runs quickly. Machan's innings came to an end, though, when he was caught and bowled by Sabbir Rahman on 35.

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen came to the crease and provided good support for Coetzer, who notched up his century by hitting Rubel Hossain back over his head for six.

Mommsen and Coetzer put on a partnership of 141 for the fourth wicket until the former was caught out for 39 by Sarkar. Coetzer's historic knock came to an end soon after when he lofted Nasir Hossain to Sarkar, who took another catch.

Richie Berrington (26) and Matthew Cross (20) took the Scots past 300 before they were both dismissed by Taskin. Majid Haq then added one before he fell to Shakib Al Hasan as Scotland ended their 50 overs on 318-8.
