Scotland captain Preston Mommsen has insisted that Majid Haq can still have an international future despite his being sent home from the World Cup.
The 32-year-old was exiled after suggesting via a controversial Twitter post that his omission from the team for the 148-run defeat by Sri Lanka was race related.
He wrote: "Always tougher when you're in the minority! #colour #race".
The off-spinner is Scotland's all-time leading wicket-taker in one-day internationals and Mommsen is keen not to lose him, although he admits that Haq's method of venting his frustration was "regrettable" and "disappointing".
Mommsen told BBC Sport: "I've no doubt he'll learn from it and he'll definitely be back. It's vital we keep hold of Maj, he still has a very important role to play for us in the future.
"I can certainly understand Maj's frustration at being left out. I rate him highly, he's one of our standout performers.
"I understand his frustration but there are ways of showing that frustration and venting that frustration, and I don't think social media was the right option for him. Regrettable for us and disappointing as team that he chose that route."
Scotland, who have lost all five of their Pool A games to date, conclude their World Cup campaign against co-hosts Australia at Hobart on Saturday.
