Bangladesh record a six-wicket victory in Nelson to end Scotland's slim hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Scotland's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup are over following a six-wicket defeat to Pool A rivals Bangladesh in Nelson.

Another battling performance raised hopes of a first win at the tournament for Scotland, but Bangladesh punished some wayward bowling in the run-chase to boost their bid for a place in the quarter-finals.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first, and the decision looked to be vindicated as Calum MacLeod (11) and Hamish Gardiner (19) both fell cheaply to leave Scotland on 38-2 in the 10th over.

Contributions from Matt Machan (35) and Preston Mommsen (39) were vital as Scotland rallied impressively, but it was opener Kyle Coetzer who stole the show to score his side's first World Cup century.

Coetzer struck 17 fours and four sixes in a knock of 156 from 134 balls to help his team set a total of 318-8 from their 50 overs.

Josh Davey removed Soumya Sarkar (2) in the second over to put the pressure on Bangladesh, but the response was impressive as Tamim Iqbal (95) enjoyed partnerships with both Mahmudullah (62) and Mushfiqur Rahim (60).

Iqbal was denied a century when Davey trapped the opener lbw, but it was the dismissal of Rahim in the 38th which brought Scotland back into the game with Bangladesh on 247-4.

However, Shakib Al Hasan (52*) and Sabbir Rahman (42) halted the Scottish charge, and composed knocks from each player made the difference as Bangladesh reached their target with 11 balls remaining.
