Third-placed Yorkshire were defeated by 298 runs at Taunton.

Somerset are in pole position to win a first County Championship title after dismantling third-placed Yorkshire by 298 runs inside three days at Taunton.

Josh Davey claimed five for 21 to help dismiss the visitors, chasing an unlikely 426, for 127 and move Somerset 17 points clear of Essex in the Division One table.

The hosts were dismissed for a second-innings 329 after Yorkshire spinner Keshav Maharaj had taken another five-wicket haul, completing match figures of 10-176.

Essex are struggling to apply the pressure on Somerset against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, where Tom Westley kept them afloat with an unbeaten century.

The right-hander's 123 led his side to 278 for six, still 239 runs behind, with Warwickshire needing a draw to secure safety and relegate Nottinghamshire to Division Two.

Winless Nottinghamshire folded to a 227-run defeat to Kent after Darren Stevens recorded match figures of 10 for 92 at Trent Bridge.

The visitors were all out for 259, having added 23 to their overnight total, to set Nottinghamshire 440 to win.

But they were skittled for 212 despite a half-century from Ravichandran Ashwin, with Stevens taking five for 53 from 18.2 overs.

Part-time spinner Felix Organ bowled Hampshire to a 272-run triumph over Surrey at the Ageas Bowl.

Brought into the attack after bad light forced home skipper James Vince into deploying slow bowling only, the 20-year-old hurried Surrey out for 151 with five for 25 in eight overs.

Hampshire had earlier set a victory target of 424 after Liam Dawson and Lewis McManus, with 88 and 61 respectively, had lifted their side to a second-innings 436.

In Division Two, Lancashire were promoted back to the top-flight courtesy of an innings-and-45-run success over Derbyshire at Old Trafford.

Derbyshire were skittled for 129 as Tom Bailey, Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Parkinson took three wickets apiece, after Josh Bohannon's 174 and 51 from captain Dane Vilas lifted the Red Rose to 418.

Durham kept their promotion hopes alive with a 44-run victory over Middlesex at Lord's, which extended their unbeaten run to eight matches.

Sam Robson compiled 65 in Middlesex's pursuit of 196, but Brydon Carse's career-best six for 26 saw them dismissed for 151.

Sussex are likely to be back in the mix after reducing Gloucestershire to 197 for six in their second innings at Bristol, a lead of just 27.

Fourth-placed Northamptonshire are also in a strong position, needing another 119 runs on the final day to defeat Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Northamptonshire will resume on 22 without loss after Leicestershire managed only 189 second time around despite 60 from Colin Ackermann.

Daryl Mitchell's century helped Worcestershire beat Glamorgan by 155 runs at New Road.

Mitchell's 139 boosted Worcestershire to 299 before a dominant bowling display saw the Welsh side, chasing 312, dismissed for 156.
