Update: Good morning everyone, there have been some gremlins in our system this morning, causing problems for yours truly. However, what I can tell you is that Mohammad Hafeez has been caught behind the stumps to give the hosts their first wicket of the day. South Africa have started impressively and Pakistan are currently 12-1 after five overs in their innings.

Jamshed stays back to a swinging delivery from Steyn and is hit on the pads. Billy Bowden raises his finger and a review confirms the original decision. Steyn has two wickets and Pakistan look to be struggling this morning.

Younus Khan is the new batsman and he has a very important role to play following those two wickets. Steyn seems to be swinging the ball with every delivery.

Steyn is on the rampage! Khan reaches for the ball outside off stump but can only find Smith at first slip. The Proteas are jubilant but Pakistan are in big trouble now. Misbah-Ul-Haq is in next.

Kallis is given his first bowl of the day and it's a decent start for the experienced all-rounder. A single is the only reward for Pakistan and the pressure continues to build.

There's a slight mix-up between the Pakistan duo midway through Morkel's over but the throw is at the wrong end and Misbah makes his ground. One more run follows and the tourists are beginning to settle.

Petersen has looked in great touch so far and doesn't miss out on an opportunity to cut Rahat past point for four runs. The South African duo trade singles towards the end of the over. All too easy for the hosts.

Unusually, Smith looks a bit nervous when the ball pitches on leg from Hafeez. He adjusts his stance and whips the ball through mid-wicket to collect four, punishing the spinner. A slightly lofted shot follows but the result is the same, four past mid-on.

Ajmal comes into the attack for what should be the final over before tea. Petersen does well to negate the threat against the tricky spinner and it's a maiden.

Tea: Questions may have been asked when Smith decided against enforcing the follow-on but he and Petersen have gone most of the way to batting Pakistan out of the game. The lead is now 277 and there looks to be no way back for the tourists.

After deciding to bat again, South Africa probably won't declare until around lunch tomorrow. It's been a positive display from Smith and Petersen, damaging any slim hopes of a Pakistan recovery.

Steyn's devastating spell of fast bowling this morning showed his class. Pakistan had no reply for the fast bowler and his variations.

Misbah will be rallying his hopes during the break but what is there to say? If this Test is beyond them, then the tourists must make a statement in the time remaining to improve morale ahead of the next game.
