South Africa have confirmed that captain AB de Villiers will play no part in their upcoming one-day international series against Bangladesh.
The batsman is banned for one game due to a slow over-rate at the recent Cricket World Cup, while the management have decided to rest him for the remaining two matches so that he can attend the birth of his child.
"AB's presence and contributions will be missed but we have a hectic playing schedule this season and we felt this would be a great opportunity to develop the next tier of batters during this series, like we are doing with our bowlers," said coach Russell Domingo in a statement.
"We would also like to give him the peace of mind of being close to his wife with the imminent birth of his first-born child."
In the 31-year-old's absence, Hashim Amla will lead the team.
