South Africa still have a lead of 247 runs as New Zealand end day three of the second Test on 157-4 in their second innings.

New Zealand have finished day three of the second Test against South Africa 247 runs behind their hosts, rounding out the day 157-4 in their second innings.

South Africa made the tourists follow on after bowling them out for 121 in the morning session, in reply to the Proteas' 525-8 first innings declaration.

BJ Watling was New Zealand's top scorer in the first innings with 63, the only Black Caps player to score over 20 runs.

Dale Steyn was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, claiming five wickets for just 17 runs.

New Zealand have been more resilient with the bat during their second innings, with Martin Guptill making 48, while Watling and Dean Brownlie will resume on 41 and 44 respectively tomorrow.

Robin Peterson and Rory Kleinveldt each took two wickets in their second innings with the ball.

The tourists still have a long way to go to avoid an innings defeat by South Africa.
