South Africa take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against Australia by defeating the hosts by an innings and 80 runs.

South Africa have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against Australia after defeating their opponents on day four of the second Test in Hobart.

The hosts lost eight wickets for just 32 runs as they recorded their fifth straight Test loss, which piles the pressure on head coach Darren Lehmann and his staff.

Australia began the day on 121-2 in their second innings, trailing the Proteas by 120 runs following a dominant day three from the visitors, which included a century from Quinton de Kock.

Usman Khawaja's dismissal for 64 created a domino effect as the remaining seven in the order failed to reach double figures, with Joe Mennie and Mitchell Starc going for ducks.

Captain Steven Smith was unable to save the innings as he hit 31 runs off 82 balls before being caught by De Kock off the bowling of Kagiso Rabada.

Kyle Abbott and Rabada dominated the field as they took six and four wickets respectively to help the Proteas win by an innings and 80 runs.
