South Africa overcome Pakistan

South Africa capitalise on a batting collapse by Pakistan to win the second Test between the two nations.

South Africa won the second Test match of their series against Pakistan by four wickets in Cape Town this afternoon.

Touring Pakistan took the lead yesterday evening and resumed today on 100-3. However, they were only able to add a further 69 runs to that total before they were bowled out.

Vernon Philander was the most profitable of South Africa's bowlers, having ended the innings with figures of 4-40.

That left the home nation requiring 181 runs to win the encounter.

Their response got off to a slow start when opener Alviro Petersen was removed for just one run when he was trapped lbw by Umar Gul.

However, a knock of 58 from Hashim Amla steadied the innings before his wicket was claimed by spinner Saeed Ajmal.

The hosts eventually reached their victory target with Dean Elgar (14) and Robin Peterson (1) at the crease.

The result means that they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and remain the world's number one Test side.
