Shivnarine Chanderpaul has signed a two-year contract with County Championship side Derbyshire.
Despite being 38, the West Indian batsman is expected to be available for all three formats of the game.
Speaking about the veteran's arrival, head coach Karl Krikken revealed his hope that he will have a "hugely positive effect" on the county's younger squad members.
"He knows what it takes to be successful and, as well as his outstanding ability with the bat, there is no doubt Shivnarine will have a hugely positive effect on our talented young squad as we embark on the challenge of Division One cricket," said Krikken.
Chanderpaul is currently rated the number two Test batsman in the world.
