Chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd believes that the West Indies are right to drop Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo in a bid to spark a positive reaction from the team.

Chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd has defended the decision to leave West Indies duo Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo out of the squad for the World Cup.

The exclusion of the two senior players has caused controversy, with Chris Gayle claiming that his teammates had been victimised, but Lloyd believes that a new-look squad can be successful without the all-rounders.

"The point is that we are number eight in the world for the last 10 years with these same guys. Should we continue playing them? We've played them in World Cups before and we haven't gotten anywhere," the 70-year-old, who captained the Windies to World Cup glory in 1975 and 1979, told Sky Sports News.

"Our main aim is to change things where West Indies cricket is concerned. We want to get up that ladder as quickly as possible and we've made changes.

"It might not suit everyone but I don't know any selector that picks a side and everyone is happy with it. We will do things as we see fit; these guys have been tried and tested and we haven't made any strides, really."

Bravo and Pollard are believed to have played leading roles in a player protest over pay which led to the West Indies abandoning their tour of India in October.
