The West Indies Cricket Board announces that Phil Simmons has left his coaching role with immediate effect due to "differences in culture and strategic approach".

The West Indies Cricket Board has announced that Phil Simmons has departed his role as coach just five months after lifting the World T20 title.

The 53-year-old left his post as Ireland's head coach to take on the West Indies job, but has endured a tough time of things and was suspended for comments about team selection last September.

Simmons was reinstated after questioning the decision to omit all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from the one-day squad, but has now stepped down due to "differences in culture" and will be replaced by Joel Garner on an interim basis.

"In recent times, based on the public pronouncements of the coach and the approach internally, we have identified differences in culture and strategic approach," a WICB statement read. "The WICB would therefore like to thank the coach for his contribution and wishes him the best in his future endeavours."

Simmons, who retired from playing in 2002, departs his position with the West Indies third in the world T20 rankings.
