Ireland captain Will Porterfield insists that his side's World Cup four-wicket win over the West Indies is not an "upset".

Ireland captain Will Porterfield has refused to label his nation's World Cup Pool B win over the West Indies as an "upset".

Ireland secured a four-wicket triumph in Nelson to claim their fifth win in the tournament since their debut in 2007.

Lendl Simmons (102) and Darren Sammy (89) contributed to a strong innings from the two-time champions as they posted 304-7 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Ireland were able to chase down the total, with the help of Paul Stirling (92), Ed Joyce (84) and Niall O'Brien (79 not out).

"Personally I hate the term upsets from minnows or associates," Porterfield told reporters after the game. "I don't see it as an upset.

"We came into the game prepared to win, we're prepared to go into the UAE game prepared to win and then South Africa and so on.

"We're looking to pick up two points in every game, and as long as we're doing the right things and building up to that, then we're happy."

Ireland are currently third in Pool B, behind leaders India and second-placed South Africa.
