A maiden century from Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo's 109 help West Indies close day two of the second Test at Port of Spain with an 89-run lead over New Zealand.

Centuries from Kraigg Brathwaite and Darren Bravo helped West Indies close day two of the second Test at Port of Spain with an 89-run lead over New Zealand.

After bowling out the Kiwis for 221 on the opening day, the hosts progressed from their overnight position of 6-1 to 310-5, thanks largely to Brathwaite and Bravo's partnership of 182 for the fourth wicket.

The Black Caps had two initially successful lbw appeals overturned by DRS before Tim Southee bowled nightwatchman Sulieman Benn, but Brathwaite and Kirk Edwards survived the rest of the morning.

Edwards had made 55 from just 63 balls when he was caught behind off Ish Sodhi with the scores on 109, and while Brathwaite's innings was not as explosive, the opener dug in to make his maiden Test ton.

Left-handed Bravo was fluent at the other end and between them they took the Windies past New Zealand's total and batted well into the evening, although both were dismissed before stumps was called.

Part-time spinner Kane Williamson had Bravo caught for 109, while Brathwaite's 258-ball stay for 129 runs was ended when he was caught and bowled by Trent Boult, shortly after the second new ball was taken.

Windies captain Denesh Ramdin sent in another nightwatchman to help veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul see out the final overs, with he and Kemar Roach on four and zero respectively going into tomorrow.
