West Indies add 92 runs during the afternoon session to reach 172-4 at tea on the opening day of the final Test match against South Africa.

West Indies have continued their positive start in the third and final Test match against South Africa after progressing to 172-4 at tea on the opening day in Cape Town.

After winning the toss and reaching 80-2 after the opening session, Leon Johnson and Marlon Samuels returned after lunch to take their team into three figures before Johnson reached his half-century.

However, with the score on 131, West Indies lost their third wicket when Johnson fell for 54 after being trapped lbw by Simon Harmer, and that dismissal brought Shivnarine Chanderpaul to the crease.

The 40-year-old was happy to play second fiddle to the attack-minded Samuels but 15 minutes before lunch, Samuels departed for 43 as Stiaan van Zyl picked up his first Test wicket.

The tourists negotiated the remaining overs, though, to give themselves the platform to register an imposing total by stumps on Friday.
