Sir Bradley Wiggins has revealed that he is "excited" by his return to track cycling at the Commonwealth Games.
The 34-year-old, who was recently left out of Team Sky's Tour de France squad, confirmed today that he will not be taking part in road races at the 2014 Games.
Wiggins will now instead compete for England solely in the men's 4,000m team pursuit in Glasgow.
Asked if he is feeling nervous ahead of the event, the 2012 Olympic time trial champion told reporters: "Not so much nervous as excited. It was just like going back 15 years with the excitement of building up my bike, waiting for the other guys to come in, the whole thing. It was very refreshing.
"I wanted to see if I could still do it, if losing all that weight on the road had affected my performances. Judging by how things are going, I think I can still do it. I've been training for seven weeks and giving it my all."
The men's team pursuit gets underway on Thursday.
