Scottish cycling hero Sir Chris Hoy was asked for identification when entering the Glasgow velodrome which has been named after him.

The five-time Olympic champion was stopped by a steward as he attempted to watch some of the track action on the opening day of the Commonwealth Games.

This was spotted by several members of the onlooking media, but Hoy has laughed off the incident and joked on Twitter that the official was "only doing her job".

Edinburgh-born Hoy, who is Britain's most successful ever Olympian with six medals in total, retired in the aftermath of London 2012.
