Steve Collins has claimed that Sir Bradley Wiggins had unfair advantages during his successful bid to set a new hour record.

Wiggins beat Alex Dowsett's previous record by 1.5km on Sunday night to set a new benchmark at 54.526km.

However, Collins, who coaches Dowsett, has suggested that Wiggins's bike was not legal and that he had further help from British Cycling.

He told BBC Sport: "One of the sad bits about it was that Bradley's bike wasn't in production. For attempts like that it should all be production available so you can buy it off the shelf. You can't get 3D-printed handlebars moulded to your own arms to make it easier.

"He also had the help of British Cycling which, well, is not allowed. It was a bit strange to see British Cycling, like [coach] Shane Sutton, getting so involved last night when he doesn't work for team Wiggins. I'm not sure how that's allowed."

Dowsett has already confirmed that he intends to try to regain the record.
