British cyclist Dame Sarah Storey failed in her attempt to break the women's hour record at the London Olympic velodrome.
Storey rode 45.502km and set a British and Paralympian record, but finished 563m short of the 46.065km record, set by Leontien Zijlaard van Moorsel in 2003.
"It was definitely the hardest hour of my life," Storey told BBC Sport.
"I came in here hoping to go further than 46km, but to break the British record, I'm really chuffed. It's not as far as Leontien but to miss out to her is no bad thing."
Storey has won a total of 11 Paralympic Games gold medals, including six cycling golds and five swimming golds.
She was also shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2012.
