Tadej Pogacar clinched the general classification crown in style at the Paris-Nice with a third and final stage win on Sunday.

The two-time Tour de France winner had donned the yellow jersey since the fourth stage of the seven-stage competition - stage six was cancelled due to high winds - and he cemented his position at the top with victory in Sunday's mountainous final stage.

Pogacar blew the competition out of the water with a late charge on the final climb, as he also retained the green points jersey and the young rider's white jersey.

"They say attack is the best defence. I really know these roads. I've done a lot of training here. I knew exactly how my legs were on the final climb and how much [energy] I could spend to get to the top," The Guardian quotes Pogacar as saying after his triumph.

"I always feel I'm good in the first races. It was always my dream to win Paris-Nice. The fact I did it is incredible. The competition here was really huge."

France's David Gaudu finished second - 53 seconds worse off than Pogacar - while reigning Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard took the final spot on the podium.
