Bradley Wiggins says that his recent bike crash has proved a 'blessing in disguise'.

Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins has said that the bike accident which left him with broken ribs has been 'a blessing is disguise'.

The 32-year-old was cycling along a road near his home in Ecclestone, Lancashire, when he was hit by a van and had to be taken to hospital.

Wiggins, who also captured Olympic goal in the time-trial event in London, admitted that he was getting caught up in the "celebrity lifestyle" and said that he is happy to be back on the bike.

"I was very lucky, it could have been a long, long layoff but fortunately it was just 10 days and I was just back on the bike," Wiggins told Sky Sports News.

"Looking back now, coming off as bad as I did, it was a blessing in disguise because things were getting a bit out of control. It's nice to get back to what I do best, which is riding my bike.

"It's what I enjoy, it's all the other stuff that I didn't enjoy; the celebrity lifestyle. It has been nice to do what got me there in the first place the last couple of weeks."

Team Sky announced on Tuesday that Chris Froome will be the lead rider in the 2013 Tour de France.
