Sir Bradley Wiggins targets world hour record

Sir Bradley Wiggins reveals that he will spend the winter training ahead of an attempt to break the world hour record at some point during 2015.

Sir Bradley Wiggins has insisted that he will only make one attempt at breaking the world hour record currently held by Jens Voigt.

The German cyclist set a new fastest time at a velodrome in Switzerland last week, but Wiggins, who will begin training in the winter, is keen to set a new benchmark next year.

The 34-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I want to prepare for it properly. It will give me something to get out of bed for in the winter.

"I was a bit surprised by Jens's decision to do it but what he did was fantastic and fully deserved.

"I could just go and do it next week but if I do it, I'll only do it once."

Chris Boardman was the last British rider to hold the record when he rode 49.441km during the 60-minute time limit.
