Team GB's Emma Pooley says that she is satisfied with her preparations for the Olympics, despite failing to medal in the time trial.

Team GB cyclist Emma Pooley has claimed that she is "happy" with her preparations, despite failing to medal in the women's time trial at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The 33-year-old, who came back out of retirement last December with the purpose of qualifying for the Games, finished 14th in today's event, which was dogged by wet weather.

Pooley, who won a silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Games, has admitted that the rainy conditions added to the toughness of the route, but refuses to make excuses.

"This is winter in Brazil, we knew there was a chance of rain," Pooley told reporters. "With my physiology it's a bit tougher when there's a strong, blustery wind like that because it makes it harder to control the bike, but that's bike racing, you get what you're given on the day.

"In life you take the opportunities you're given and I'm very grateful for them. It's still right to take the opportunities that you have and do the best you can with them. You don't know whether the difference between a medal and not is a tiny thing or a big thing.

"I have to be happy with the decision I made and the preparation I made and the training I made. I don't think there was anything glaringly wrong with it."

The USA's Kristin Armstrong won the event, claiming her third consecutive Olympic gold.
