Denmark's Lasse Hansen has described winning gold in the men's omnium as a "crazy" feeling.

Hansen ended Team GB's velodrome dominance with victory in the six-discipline event, despite crashing in the early stages of the penultimate race.

However, Hansen claims that the crash made him "mad", and even more determined to clinch the gold, which he secured by finishing second behind British bronze medallist Ed Clancy in the time trial.

"My goal was just to do good. I'd have been really happy to get any medal so standing here with a gold medal is a crazy feeling," he said.

"[The crash] makes this feeling even more crazy. It gave me some extra power, an adrenaline kick. I just got mad and wanted it even more.

"I just took my chance and went flat out until I could see the medal hanging there."

Hansen won the event by two points, ahead of France's Bryan Coquard, with Clancy one point behind that in third.
