The IOC will not be investigating comments made by Team GB's Nathan Hindes following their sprint success.

The International Olympic Committee will not investigate comments made by cyclist Philip Hindes following Great Britain's gold medal-winning team sprint.

In a post-race interview, 19-year-old Hindes claimed that he had intentionally crashed in qualification because he was not pleased with his start.

"I just crashed, I did it on purpose to get a restart, just to have the fastest ride," said Hindes.

The controversial comment sparked fury among the French ranks but the IOC have announced that no action will be taken.

"People were not deprived of a competition, unlike in the badminton. A race took place and best efforts were made by the British team," said IOC representative Mark Adams.

"They see no reason to question the result and neither do we. This is a matter of degree and judgement. In the case of the badminton it clearly crossed the line."

British cycling later suggested that German-born Hindes's comments were 'lost in translation'.
