Great Britain's Bradley Wiggins claims the gold medal in the men's time trial at the London Olympics.

Bradley Wiggins claimed Team GB's second gold medal of the day in the men's time trial this afternoon.

This year's Tour de France winner, who went off second from last, posted a time of 50 minutes and 39 seconds that nobody else in the field was able to match.

Only Fabian Cancellara was still out on the course as Wiggins finished. However, the Swiss rider, who has been struggling with a shoulder injury, ended over three minutes behind the Team Sky cyclist.

As Wiggins crossed the line for the fourth gold of his career, he demoted Germany's Tony Martin into the silver medal position.

There was further good news for Great Britain thanks to Chris Froome, who took the bronze medal with a time of 51 minutes and 47 seconds.

Wiggins has now won seven medals in an Olympic career that stretches back to Sydney in 2000. As a result, he is the most successful British competitor in the history of the Games.
