Dani King says that she wants to return to the track as she bids to win a place in Great Britain's squad for the Olympic Games in Rio.

Olympic gold medallist Dani King has said that she is planning a return to the track ahead of the Rio Games next year.

The 24-year-old claimed gold in the women's team pursuit at London 2012, but after being kept in reserve for the 2014 Track World Championships, she opted to switch to the road.

However, King has said that she is eager to get back to the velodrome in order to earn a spot as one of the four riders in the team pursuit for Rio 2016.

"My plan is to get back into the track squad for Rio," she told reporters. "I'm having a season on the road with Wiggle-Honda and I'll be hoping to get myself back into the team September-time, with the goal of being in the team for the 2016 World Championships in London [next March] and Rio.

"The shape I'm in now is probably better than I've been in for quite a long time. I'm hoping that strength will transfer to the track. I'm really pleased with the decision I've made.

"It's all about making that team now. It's about focusing on my day-to-day training and getting the most out of myself."

King is a three-time world champion in the team pursuit.
