Sir Chris Hoy: 'Recent slump will be good for GB cycling ahead of Rio 2016'

Six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy believes that Great Britain's cyclists will benefit from their recent slump when the Rio 2016 Olympics come around.

Six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has claimed that Great Britain's cyclists will be "hungry for success" at Rio 2016 following their recent slump in form.

The nation dominated the London 2012 Games by snatching 12 medals, including eight golds, but following a number of changes in personnel, wins have been far from frequent.

At the World Championships earlier this year, Britain took home just three silver medals, but Hoy believes that the slump will be beneficial.

"If you keep winning you become fearful of change as you feel like you have the 'winning formula', but the sport is constantly developing so you have to adapt all the time," Hoy told the Ealing Times.

"They were basically forced into making those changes, rethinking their training and their ideas, and it will have given them a breath of fresh air. You can see a new lease of life in them and they're all hungry for success now."

Hoy retired from professional cycling in April 2013.
