Mark Cavendish is hoping to end a relatively unsuccessful Tour de France with a fourth straight victory in the final stage in Paris on Sunday.

Team Sky sprinter Mark Cavendish has said that he wants to finish this year's Tour de France with another victory on the Champs-Elysees.

The 'Manx Missile' has won the final stage of the race in each of the last three years and is hoping to make it four on Sunday.

"I'd like to make it a fourth. It would be a great way to finish off a successful Tour de France," he said.

Cavendish's tour hasn't gone quite according to plan this year as he has only won one stage.

However, the 27-year-old was named as the greatest sprinter in the Tour's history by French publication L'Equipe.

Cavendish has 21 stage wins in the famous road race over his career and will move to fourth on the all-time list with another victory this year.

He added: "It would be nice to get 22 in Paris and to finish that off at the Tour with the yellow jersey."

Cavendish himself isn't going for the overall winner's yellow jersey but British teammate Bradley Wiggins currently holds it and would become the first British winner of the Tour if he can cross the line on Sunday in the lead.

After a rest day today, the 16th stage of the Tour takes place tomorrow and riders will encounter the notorious Col de Tourmalet climb.
