Cadel Evans targets Tour de France success

Australian cyclist Cadel Evans vows to prove the media wrong during this year's Tour de France.

Cadel Evans has revealed that he is keen to recover from his disappointing campaign in 2012.

The Australian suffered from a virus which hampered him particularly during the Tour de France, where he could only manage to finish seventh.

However, having seen reports in the press that have written him off, the 36-year-old has accused some of the media of having a "short-term memory".

"There is some short-term memory from the media, I had a virus last year and I still was seventh in the Tour de France" he told Reuters. "Of course on paper Tejay [van Garderen] was better than me but people seem to forget what I have done on the Tour de France in the six years preceding 2012."

Evans won the Tour in 2011, as well as finishing second in 2007 and 2008.
