Gary Anderson admits that it feels "very special" to defeat Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis on the way to winning the Players Championship Finals.

Gary Anderson has admitted that he is delighted to have finally won his first PDC televised ranking title after winning the Players Championship Finals on Sunday.

After impressing away from the television cameras throughout 2014, Anderson was seeded first for the event in Minehead, but the draw was harsh on the Scot who was included in the same quarter as Stephen Bunting and Phil Taylor.

Anderson defeated both in fine style before wins over Vincent van der Voort and Adrian Lewis saw the 43-year-old cap off an excellent weekend.

The new world number four told ITV Sport: "I worked my heart out this year to get the number one seed and to be honest, I've had probably the hardest draw that you could have had, so to win the tournament makes it very special.

"I got stuck in and did the business, and it's nice to defeat Phil and go on to win the tournament because not too many players do that. In the semi-final against Vincent van der Voort, I needed one more leg and all of a sudden, he took four ton-plus finishes out on me, and I was sweating a bit so I was glad to get past him.

"I got off to a good start in the final too and it's great to walk away with the trophy."

Anderson will be seeded fourth for the PDC World Championship, which begins on December 18.
