Mervyn King has revealed that his current form has given him confidence ahead of the knockout stages of the Grand Slam of Darts.
The world number 11 has responded from his Masters final defeat earlier this month with three 5-4 victories over Tony O'Shea, James Wade and Jamie Caven, and the two-time Lakeside runner-up has acknowledged that he had to produce his best darts to make the second round.
The 48-year-old told PDC.tv: "I knew Jamie was going to up the ante tonight and I had to go with him when he hit that 129 finish. I had a hurdle to get over tonight and I managed it, but Jamie never gets any easier to beat.
"I'm feeling good and I'm happy with how I'm playing because this was such a tough group and you'd have wanted to avoid all three players."
King will now play Gary Anderson on Thursday evening for a place in the quarter-finals.
