Adrian Lewis: 'I must start faster'

Adrian Lewis believes that slow starts in previous games is the reason he is fighting to survive in this year's Premier League.

Adrian Lewis has admitted that he has got to "come out of the blocks faster" in his crucial Premier League fixture with Peter Wright in Manchester.

The two-time world champion will make the final eight should he defeat the Scot, but if he loses on Thursday evening, he will bow out of the competition at the first stage.

A draw would leave Lewis requiring Raymond van Barneveld to lose to Gary Anderson, but the Stoke-on-Trent thrower believes that he doesn't deserve to progress if he doesn't improve on his recent performances.

The 30-year-old told PDC.tv: "It's a do-or-die match and if I finish like I did last week I deserve to go out. Anybody can score well, but it's about hitting the doubles at the right times.

"I did it in Glasgow but in Dublin it didn't happen for me. I also think I'm starting too slowly in games and I've got to try and come out of the blocks a lot quicker."

Lewis has won just one of his eight games in this year's competition, which came against Van Barneveld on the opening night of the tournament.
