World number one Michael van Gerwen insists that improvements can still be made to his game, despite nearing £1m at the top of the PDC Order of Merit.

Michael van Gerwen has admitted that he is playing some of the best darts of his life as he continues his dominance at the top of the PDC Order of Merit.

The world number one is nearing £1m in the world rankings, almost £400,000 more than nearest challenger Phil Taylor, but the Dutchman believes that the best is yet to come as he targets taking his game to a new level.

The 25-year-old told PDC.tv: "I feel great and confidence is really important in this game.

"I know when I'm confident that I can play really well and I hope that I can keep this going for a long time. That's what I'm aiming for and I've done well at the start of the season since the semi-final loss in the World Championship.

"I'm playing some of the best darts of my life at the moment but I know I can do better and you need to believe that you can do better, so we're going to see in the next couple of months."

Van Gerwen has won 56 and drawn two of his 60 matches since his defeat in the semi-finals of the World Championships at the start of 2015.
