Phil Taylor bounces back from his whitewash defeat to Michael van Gerwen by producing two nine-dart finishes en route to winning a UK Open qualifying title in Wigan.

Phil Taylor hit two nine-dart finishes en route to winning the third UK Open qualifying title at Wigan's Robin Park Tennis Centre on Sunday.

Taylor produced the first of his two perfect legs during a 6-1 thrashing of Andy Hamilton in the round of 16. He then repeated the feat to complete a 6-2 victory over Adrian Lewis in the final.

After being knocked out of the World Championship by Michael Smith in December, Taylor switched darts manufacturers earlier this month.

Life with his new arrows began badly, as he was whitewashed by Michael van Gerwen on the opening night of the 2014 Premier League on Thursday.

His slump continued a day later when he lost to Keegan Brown in his opening game of Friday's knockout competition in Wigan, which was eventually won by fellow Stoke-on-Trent thrower Hamilton.

The 16-time world champion managed to reach the semis on Saturday, before bowing out to Andrew Gilding, who lost to BDO world champion Stephen Bunting in the final.

However, 'The Power' was back to his best on Sunday, as he stormed through the field to claim the £10,000 top prize.

A total of six nine-darters were witnessed during an action-packed three-day weekend in Wigan, as Terry Jenkins, David Ladley, Dave Chisnall and David Pallet also took out 501 in just three visits.
