Phil Taylor's reign as World Grand Prix champion has come to an end after he lost 3-1 to James Wade in the quarter-finals on Friday night.

James Wade has continued his impressive form at the World Grand Prix by beating Phil Taylor 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

The left-hander hit a nine-darter on the way to defeating Robert Thornton on Wednesday evening, and while he didn't record a second perfect game, he had enough to see off the defending champion.

The world number seven took the opening two sets on a deciding leg, before Taylor struck back in the third to extend the game.

However, Wade won three successive legs in the fourth to secure victory and set up a semi-final clash with Gary Anderson.

In a see-saw contest, Anderson saw a two-set advantage disappear as Kevin Painter hit a 152 checkout to level the match, but the Scot responded positively in the fifth to reach the last four in Dublin for the first time.

Michael van Gerwen has also reached the semi-finals after twice fighting back against Mervyn King before emerging a 3-2 victor having edged a last-leg decider.

The world number one will now play Stephen Bunting after last year's Lakeside champion overcame Welshman Richie Burnett by a 3-1 scoreline.
