Raymond Van Barneveld's elimination from the Premier League was confirmed after he lost 7-1 to Daryl Gurney in Rotterdam.
Thursday's match againstĀ Michael Van Gerwen, who moved back to first, will be his last in the competition given his plans to retire at the end of the season.
Van Barneveld sits ninth out of nine, having won one of eight matches, and only briefly lifted an otherwise poor performance with a 180 as he pulled the score back to 2-1.
Fellow Dutchman Van Gerwen and the second-placed Rob Cross are level with 11 points from eight.
Van Gerwen secured a convincing 7-1 victory over the sixth-placed Peter Wright, but Cross fell to second with a 7-5 defeat by Mensur Suljovic, who moved to third.
There was also a 7-5 win for Michael Smith over Gerwyn Price, who respectively sit eighth and seventh, both with a total of seven points and therefore beyond Van Barneveld's reach.
James Wade and Dimitri van den Bergh drew 6-6 after both walked off mid-match because of a draft.
