China's five-time Olympics diving champion Wu Minxia has announced her retirement from the sport at the age of 31.
Wu had previously confirmed that this year's Games in Rio would be her last after she picked up a leg injury, though she still went on to defend her gold in the 3m synchro.
The event also earned her golds at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012, while she also collected an individual gold in the 3m springboard in 2012.
"Now, though reluctantly, it's time to leave," Wu said on her official Weibo account. "The story of Chinese diving didn't start with me and it won't end with me."
In a subsequent interview with CCTV, she added: "I am really sorry, but my physical condition does not allow me to continue training. I really feared the coming of today."
China comfortably topped the medal table in Rio over the summer, earning a total of seven golds, two silvers and a bronze.
